Read The Common Rule by Early P. 63-93

  1. On page 19 of Celebration of Discipline, Foster introduces the concept of biblical meditation by referencing two Hebrew words used 58 times throughout Scripture. These terms encompass various practices: listening to God’s word, reflecting on His works, recounting His deeds, and contemplating His law. Which of these practices come naturally to you? Are there any aspects of biblical meditation that you find particularly challenging?

  2. On P. 85 Foster Says “We come to the scripture to be changed, not to amass information” which begs the question: Does your approach to studying Scripture reflect your desire for transformation rather than mere information? If so, how? If not, how could you start to shift?

  3. On P. 82 of The Common Rule, Justin Earley says he often subconsciously asks himself the question “what do I need to do to make someone else happy with me? How can I justify my existence to the world today?” Do you ever feel like your worth depends on gaining other people’s approval? Or that your value is measured by what you contribute—whether through your work, your relationships, or how much you help others?

  4. Is there anything else you want to share?
